Shelby Lee Adams (born October 24, 1950) is an esteemed American environmental portrait photographer and artist best known for his images of Appalachian family life. His photographic works, shot mostly in b&w, are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Harvard Fogg Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He was a recipient in 2010 of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship as well as two awards from the National Endowment for the Arts.
